Typical display from England. Loved the Welsh game, though the keeper was in a bad position on Bales goal. Spain got lucky - heartbreaker for the Czechs today - and I would imagine Spain will have problems with more skilled teams. Tough break for the Irish too - I thought they looked the better team than Sweden, at least with the chances they created. Unfortunate on the own goal that meant a 1 - 1 draw. I thought Germany was lucky too - lots of skill, but Ukraine picked them apart at times and should have scored a few times if not for the German GK. Albania should have scored in their game against the Swiss, even when a man down. They certainly had some chances! Looking forward to the Italy/Belgium game this is just about to kick off.
A rather lame tournament yet. The "big 3" France, Germany and Spain won without underlining their status. Croatia was the best team so far, looking forward to the match against Spain.
Ireland should have won the game. They showed much better performance than the Swedes. We played great against the Turks.
I don't think the 'Big 3' looked good at all. All struggled in their games with the opposition having some decent chances. Italy vs Belgium, I think, has been the most exciting game so far. Italy playing without any sort of pressure coming into this tournament and, like I said earlier, Belgium looking good on paper but not on the pitch. Should be interested to see how some of these second games go. I am obviously looking forward to the Wales vs England game for many reasons!
I agree Italy v Belgium best game so far, interesting to see the contrast in the 2 teams regarding experience, approach and teamwork.
The sending off right after the first goal dictated the end of the game. I thought it was a terrible call by the referee...nothing more than a foul, certainly not a yellow card in my opinion - especially since his earlier one was perhaps a little harsh. Iceland could be in for a long game now against Portugal - already 1- 0 at halftime though could easily be at least 3 - 0 from what I have seen.
As I said, Iceland may a Cinderella story in the making? IMO, 1-1 against Portugal is a good finish for Iceland and a dissapointment for Portugal....
And a lot of speculating about Russia being disqualified. I say bulls*it. Russia is the host to the World Cup 2018. They wouldn't have the guts to throw them out.
This is what happens when you don't let your wife watch the game with you. I really feel sorry for this guy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8ee54Krfis
I didn't get to watch most of the 2nd half, but Wales were certainly hard done by the last minute England goal. A draw for Wales (who weren't expected to win as it was) would have been top notch. Also love how N.Ireland walloped the Ukraine just now! Wasn't expecting that.
They would the same can't be said about England tho. This is all politically motivated if you ask me... Still sad. I wish the Russians came to play football with the same intensity that the hooligans came to cause mischeif.
Just like the Eurosong... Germany 0-0 Poland The first game without goals on the Championship. Both teams had some good chances but it ended a draw.
I was very surprised by France's performance and Albania. The 2-0 win seems appropriate, I just didn't expect both of the goals to come after the 90th minute!
As we've seen with the Olympics, Russia hosting the next World Cup has everything to do with $$$$ and corruption (just like Brazil getting the Olympics). Its already been proven that FIFA etc is rife with corruption. Some good matchups today. Hopefully I am not as busy at work and can watch some of them
Please read my post here: http://www.ww2f.com/topic/58516-croatian-flares-overshadowed-croatian-flair/ It's related to Euro.
Let's hope that the first match with more than 2 goals for a team is kind of a restart for the tournament. Now some of the teams need a victory to reach the play-offs and the hedgehog defence tactics will finally end. German team manager Löw had to answer silly questions today from journalists who should know better. Even an experienced and successful team can't score at least 2 times each game and the fittest of players is tired after a long season but knows when he needs his full performance. And we all know that football is a simple game; 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans win. Gary Lineker stole that quote from me.
