That FT-17 just looks like another easy target to me.

Brat: FT 17 could qualify into this favourite tank thread...

But we must not forget that it also qualifies for the winner of a WWI best tank thread!

Maybe, but JS-3 saw no action during WWII, like British Centurion

My favorite tank is Tiger 1

I said about is3 that he was a beautifull tank.
It is truth , is3 was used only for parade in 1945; he came to late.

Maybe we can gave me a link to that british tank (centurion)

British Centurion see action first time in korea say Imperial War Museum from Duxford :

"The outbreak of the Korean War in 1950 found US forces largely using equipment first issued at the end of the Second World War such as the M40 155 mm self-propelled gun. For the British Army Korea saw the first action of the Centurion tank, the standard post-1945 British Army battle tank. The Soviet contemporary of the Centurion and most widely-used tank after 1945 was the T-55 medium tank which has been used in combat by, amongst other armed forces, North Vietnam, Syria, Pakistan, India, Libya and Iraq"

    Cheers,

P.S.: Best WW II tank: the Italian M14/41, the queen of the Battlefields, a true sucessor of the anchient Roman chariots.

I'd have to say my favorite tank of WWII is the t-35. Theres only one left today in the world. The t-35 wasnt in production during the war it was still used during the first months of barbarossa.

    T-35

I guess I have two favorite tanks, because the JS-2 Stalin II tank is another favorite. It was the No. 1 opposition to the faschist Tiger.
It had a 122mm gun that could penetrate 160mm of armor plate at 1,000m. It's turret had 160mm of armor and had a DShk anti-aircraft machine gun on the commander's cupola.
The panther was proven inferior to the JS-2. The JS-2 had a better gun and thicker armor. It was also ten tons lighter.
It is harder to compare it to the King Tiger. The King Tiger was much heavier than the JS-2. There werent very many confrontations between the two because the germans seldom used them on the eastern front. In its gun and armor the King Tiger was still superior to the JS-2, but the JS-2 was more manueverable and it was much easier and cheaper to produce.

Ok the "other" T28...this time a 1945 US invention, with just a bit of borrowing from the Russians ;) JUST IMAGINE if this one made it into the war and was slowly making its way towards Berlin...

it could be far worse than that:

    (assuming my picture link worked)
This is the T-29E2 Heavy tank. It is virtually immune to 88/71 gunfire (the front is 208mm accounting for slope, the turret face is 11" thick) mounts a 105mm that will penetrate a Panther or Tiger almost anywhere at 1000 yards or more and still manages 22 mph on a road.

Dare I say "Wrong Mr Gardiner"? I think the T28 had 12" of armour to your tank's 11" and with the same 105mm gun too!! But I must admit your tank is far more practical, is that the "Tortoise" you got there?

My list for best tanks would be as follows (best first):

    Pz.Kpfw. Tiger Ausf. B
    Pz.Kpfw. Panther
    JS-2
    M26 Pershing
    Sherman VC Firefly
    Pz.Kpfw. Tiger Ausf. E

The reasons for my choices are:
Pz.Kpfw. Tiger Ausf. B had the better gun and the best armour, combined with good reliability and maneuvrebility.

The Pz.Kpfw. Panther was a 'little brother' of the Tiger II, with less armour and a smaller gun, but still a very potent medium tank.

The JS-2 was the first Soviet tank that really took great scores, however it did have mechanical/assembly difficulties.

The Pershing and the Firely would be almost equal, however I still rate the Pershing over the Firefly because of its better overall armour protection.

The Pz.Kpfw. Tiger Ausf. E was outdated in comparison to the other in this discussion. It had been surpassed by the Panther in both speed, armour and armament, but it was still a very potent weapon against the main weapons of the Allies - such as the Sherman and T-34.
