    Genesis device

Starfleet could just throw a load of Genesis torpedoes at the Imperials - the system ultimately didn't work as intended but it would make one hell of a weapon to use against a whole fleet (even a whole fleet of Deathstars)

    :smok:

Another thought - given the way the Genesis device works - it rearranges all matter into its new matrix which is wahtever you program it to form, it could turn vast fleets of Imperials into vast Fleets of Starfleets (admitedly temporaily)

    :D

    Re: Genesis device

Hmmmm...possibly, but it's unlikely that it could be programmed to be that specific in its effect. More to the point, what makes you think that a Genesis torpedo would get anywhere near the Imperial Fleet? The Imperial fighter patrols would blast the thing long before it got there, just on general principle. And just how likely is the Federation to use Genesis against sentient beings, or any life form at all?

The photon and quantum torpedoes didn't seem to have too much problem but I would agree, it would require the suspension of ethics for the Federation to use Genesis devices although if your back is against the wall and a Death Star is heading for the 3rd rock from the sun then ethics go out of the window.

No. But if you have any way to put them on a website, or link to a website that has it...

Perhaps. But the situation would have to be really desperate, especially since you would catch Earth in the Genesis blast if the torpedo is set off too close to the planet. Remember, we never did learn what the range limit of the Genesis effect is.

Another brilliant SF story I once read revolved around a certain propelling system that enabled small spaceships to reach light speed, but which distorted timespace on liftoff so much that entire planets were destroyed by tests with the technology. :D

Well from memory, 4,000km was way too close to survive the initial blast but the Enterprise (NCC1701) outran the wave at max warp then stopped which makes the distance around 600 million km.

It would be a bit annoying if the Portal opened up any closer :D

If you go to the main site and type in Genesis device into the search engine then click on Genesis Weapon power it gives a summary which for some reason doesn't appear to have a direct link.

Not right off the top of my head, but I can find out; I have the information in a book at home. If I can remember to do so, I'll post the info here. I do know that the ECLIPSE was the largest ship ever in the Imperial inventory, save for the Death Star (which technically wasn't a ship). And she carried a bow mounted superlaser similar to that of the Death Star, only less powerful; it could only crack open the crust of a planet instead of destroying it outright.

    Star Wars

There was a comic book series which had World Destroyers??? which sucked up planetary matter (buildings. people etc) for use as raw materials - planetary matter in one end and finished whatever you wanted to make out of the arse end.

If I remember correctly the Luke was making everyone who knew him VERY VERY nervous with his attitude.
