When Finland was first threatened by war Field-Marshal Baron Mannerheim was appointed Defender of Finland and Commander-in-Chief. He was also Commander-in-Chief when Finland fought for her independence in 1918 and Regent in 1918-19. He was appointed a Field-Marshal in 1933.
