Hi there. My uncle George J Gernitis served in the 82nd Airborne 505 PIR. I know he received Bronze Star and Purple Heart and think he dropped over Ste Mere Eglise, and later was a tank driver perhaps in Market Garden. He left Germany in Dec 1945 and was discharged in PA by end of that year. His personnel files were lost in the 1973 St Louis fire Any thoughts of how I can learn about his service record?.
