was searching for a long lost 8th AF fighter group vid and this nearly ran over me ........

    enjoy, great color footage

have to say that undercarriage has got to be one of the most massive for such a small and light A/C.

    Thanks for that Erich:

Interesting to see stub exhausts on the low-level marker aircraft.

Tried to reply to this three times before but the Forum wouldn't let me...

It's a great video and much of it was shot on a private-owned 16mm camera by Flying Officer Brian E B Harris DFC, a Mosquito Navigator. It shows the Mossies of 627 Squadron at RAF Woodhall Spa ( which was also 'home' to 617 Squadron ) in Lincolnshire. It is believed to have been shot in late September 1944, very soon after Guy Gibson was lost flying from this airfield in a 627 Mosquito B.XX.

It's interesting as it shows clearly the earlier, 'night bomber' schemes on 627's B.IVs ( left over from their days with 8 Group PFF ) as well as the later, 'day fighter' type scheme ( some complete with invasion stripes ) on the B.XXs taken on charge after 627 transferred back to No 5 Group to carry out low-level marking duties.

( Regular Forum members may remember that a few years back I had the privilege of restoring the 627 Squadron Bombing Trophy from this era, so I always have a particular interest in 627.....)

Did you save it? Can you post it where we could see it?

There does not appear to be a place to upload videos here - probably too much bandwidth.
    - It would be nice if the moderators could allow storage of extra special archival footage such as this to ensure it is available for posterity. (I hope this forum is being utilized centuries to come!)

The only Mosquito videos I could find by google search was

    Hello,
I'm new to WWII Forums, so it's taking time to work out how to manage the layout.
I found it when helping my wife Jean, trace her uncle Albert Victor Aylott's memorial. We are still in touch with his wife - now living in the states. We knew he was a pilot in 605 squadron. Google searching this brought us to the site.
Imagine our feelings as we read the second item where Stevin replied to Erich (April15th 2005) naming the crew of the Mossie shot down on the night of Aug 2/3 1943.
We would like to find out more about Jean's uncle and his RAF career.
My Dad (Fred Davis-Chamberlain) was a sergeant major in the Royal Artillery, with an Anti aircraft battery - more of that another time.
Looking forward to hearing from anyone interested.
