It does not get "cold" in Texas.
I remember a movie about a lady who brought a Herford bull to Texas to improve her long-horn stock. He died in a blizzard but not before his duty.
Give it a couple of winter's for your blood to thin out.
At least ya'll can actually SEE the chain bar! Up here ya' have to attach a 'pull-string' to pull it back out.
Just googled Texas...January MAX 12.7C MIN 2.2C! 2 Degrees! That's bloody cold...(55-36F)
Same time in Darwin MAX 35C MIN 25C (95-77F) Add to that 100% Humidity...
Just remember that it's 801 miles* from the northwest corner of the Panhandle to the southernmost tip of the state. That's a lot of room for temperature variations.
*That two jeroboams, I think.
My family moved to Texas in January 1980, wore nothing heavier than a log sleeve shirt first two winter's , then began going down hill after that. Think its a combination of the near constant breeze/wind and moisture content that cuts to the bone. It doesn't help that we spend 6 months broiling.
Yep you're right...those temps were for Dallas. Darwin to SA border 1570kms - 970 miles
I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas. Occasionally the dew freezes on the windshield of my truck, but that's not cold.
I spent most of the winters of my youth in Canada. When leaving the house requires thick hat, gloves, a snow coat, and warm boots, that's cold. I've never worn a hat or gloves for warmth in Texas.
Yes 17 years in Canberra has given me an appreciation for people who live in that kind of cold...sooo depressing, people stay inside, don't talk to one another...having to run the hot water before washing one's hands, scraping ice off the wind shield with a credit card (because the hose has frozen up) Wow...im so glad im away from that. I think I've said before the Capital of Australia Canberra site was chosen BECAUSE it was so cold, the thinking that white (European) people work better in the cold...! Pffft...f..k that.
Canada is next level cold...why do people live there?
In Darwin, if it gets to 18C (64.4F) the cardies (cardigans) and beanies get pulled out and the dogs are all curled up tight...that's cold for a Territorian.
On top of Darwin's heat we are having a heat wave also...picked up two birds so far that have fallen to the heat...poor buggers...im taking out cold water for the two resident plovers near me who are sitting on eggs in the sun at the moment. As soon as I fill the bowl they run over and dip their feet in the water and then drink and drink...
A picture of the Lap winged Plover...I chose this picture because you can see their two spurs they have in their wings...they are retracted, but can push them out as a weaponised wing...they like to dive bomb during nesting season, so you have to become friends with them. The most fearless bird I've ever seen, they will stand up to anything...I've even seen one stand its ground against a plane!
Hello. Just waiting for snow and minus 30 Celsius degree weather. Just nice for skiing a 30 kilometer round. After that hot chocolate and sauna and a beer or two...

I won't willingly go into an environment I couldn't survive in naked.
I make a similar point...don’t live in an environment where shelter is survival...live where you can sleep under a tree...
What? No problem....
And a wonderful view.
I love the look on his face. "Okay, no sex for two years..."
It's a balmy 29F (-1C) today. But hey, it's sunny and no snow on the ground! And in the middle of November no less.
We were in the 70s (upper) yesterday. I have the AC on cool today.
