    When, on May 26th 1940, General Sir Edmund Ironside was appointed to be Commander-in-Chief of the Home Forces he was succeeded as Chief of the Imperial. General Staff by General Sir John Dill, who at the out break of war, was in command of the 1st Army Corps, B.E.F. He relinquished that post in April to become Vice-Chief of the I.G.S. He was 59 years of age and served with distinction in World War One. As C-in-C in Palestine in 1936-1937 his success was outstanding…
