I just had a peek at the rear deck of the Millennium Falcon from the Star Wars movies and I'm convinced I saw two or three engine decks from German Panther tanks there. I'm sure I'm not the first to notice this if it's correct.
Exhaust vents,probably: <http://www.starshipbuilder.com/millennium_falcon/millennium_falcon01.jpg> Christian
If you happen to come across the MPC/ERTL Millenium Falcon model kit,you will find the rear end of a Panther as well. The stowage boxes and exhausts are unmistakable.
The tank parts are there because, when Lucas needed models of various space craft for the first movie, his model makers used parts from tank model kits to provide detail for the movie models. Several years ago, the actual movie models were on display at the NASM, and the tank model parts were very noticeable (at least to a tank modeler !). In addition, I believe that in the first Star Wars movie, you can see one of the Storm Troopers toting an MG42.
We had a good quiz on WW2 guns as movie props: http://www.fun-online.sk/forum/viewtopi ... 09&start=0 but I think that most of the pictures are gone now...
The imperial blaster rifles like the one Chewie uses to shoot up the detention area on episode IV are MG-42s. I thought it looked sorta like an MG-34, but that seems less likely, but the stock and muzzle are clearly from an MG-42. I wondered how many other people would notice that. Cool.
