Lorenz was the son of a Farmer from Rettenbach. According to the card at the time of his death he was in the Bavarian 16th Infanterie Regiment 1st company. Prior to the war he was with the Bavarian 4th Infanterie Regiment between 19.10.1911 and 18.09.1913. He was mobilized on 04.08.1914 and went with his Regiment to France on 08.08.1914. He was participating in the Battle of the Somme when he was wounded by a shell splinter at Montauban and died of his wounds at the Aid Post in Villers on July 12th 1916. He is buried at the German Cemetery in Villers-au-Flos.

Horrible battles. Some 400,000 casualties both sides.
