    Goodbye fellas.

My parents have said that I'm not allowed to go on this forum any more, so I'll probably be off it till I turn 18, in three years time.

    Hope you all have fun,

    Tim a.k.a commando

That sounds rather silly, but I guess it's their perogative.

    Sorry to see you go!

Quite possibly his parents saw the 'porn' pictures that escaped detection for about a week and which he had commented on!

    Re: post subject

    Ahem - 2 days.

Although we did have rather a rash of similar posts that week - I removed 4 or 5 of them.

Or possibly they just don't want him going on sites with an option of chatting, posting his picture, etc. A fairly sensible precaution.

OK Richard, two days with over 50 viewings of explicit porn in 48 hours, how many people Admin/moderators are in a position to remove such posts? Posters spent TWO days making silly comments with no sign of removal until I objected then I grant you it was removed. This is reason I do not PM children such as Blaster and Commando, no wonder his parents objected if they saw that.

Well, off the top of my head we have 2 Admin, 2 ex-admin with Moderator rights, and around 6 Moderators.

I agree, the fact that it was on the board for more than a matter of hours is (to put it mildly) not good. I hold myself responsible for it because I was alerted to its presence but (because I was a doofus) failed to delete it.

The 'Call to Arms' topic I assumed was just a reaction to the increased level of spam (it tends to come in waves, and the last couple of weeks have been pretty bad, plenty of spam and a few porn), and did not realise there was a post still up until you actually gave the location.

And yes, if his parents saw that post (or any of the other similar ones) I do not doubt that would be the reason he was told to stop. However, the time lag (almost a full week since the post was removed) make that unlikely as the cause.

The new forum software, which is currently being tested, will include a build-in system for reporting bad posts (as well as a more efficient filter against spammers). Therefore, I would like to again encourage everyone to volunteer as testers by sending me a PM, to try out the system and let me know of any irregularities.

Well, if you have to go, then i guess it will be until 3 years. The best to you commando and untill 3 years, hopefully.

I do wonder why you are not allowed to visit the forum anymore? I mean, that your parents are upset about spam (if that is the case) then they must be really shortminded (forgive me if i offend) to think that every forum is spam-proof.

That seems a shame, and whilst I appreciate that you're probably not going to be able to answer, but if you can is there any particular reason why?

What an odd thing to say...

Without wishing to sound overly critical, if this forum genuinely has a Mod/Admin team 10 strong then it is completely unacceptable for any such posts to have survived for as long as 48 hours.

Out of interest who makes up our Admin/Mod Team and in what capacity these days (I'm asking because I honestly am not sure)? And how many are Active moderators compared to those who rarely or infrequently visit these boards these days?

As a suggestion, why not post a locked sticky in the Member's Lounge or Suggestions sub-forums with a brief welcome and a link to each Moderator/Admin's profile so that members can easily tell who is calling the shots and have an easy route to PM a Mod or Admin if necessary?

Yourself and Christian I guess are the Admin, Roel and Skua I guess more tentatively are ex-Admin moderators, as for the others... Notmi and Corpcasselbury are the only ones I can think of who are farily regular visitors here, Panzerprofile is a fairly infrequent visitor, Tom lasted posted on here October 10th 2007, and the other two...? I really don't know, I wouldn't count Moonchild, he hasn't posted on here in coming up to 3 years and Diablo's been absent 18 months.

Really on a day to day basis probably less than half the Admin/Mod team actually police these boards which is a big part of what they should be doing.

I'll hop off my soap box now...

I don't know if the same goes for Roel, but I have no means to remove an inappropriate message by. I'm just a regular member with a title and wish to remain that way. ;)

I'm often around at odd hours posting. I saw the porn & P.M'd Roel. (Not knowing he was an ex-mod). If I see any more, who should I alert?

This really makes my point then, Skua, your Forum Rank (And as my own special rank is "The Toastinator" I appreciate that this has somewhat limited value) is "Administrator Emeritus" which in a forum that largely uses US military ranks implies that you have administrator or moderator privileges of some description. If you don't, then who are the other "Ex-Admin Moderator(s)"?

We, the members of this forum, should at least know who's in a position to call the shots over our posts and edit or delete them as they decide. At the moment that is not clear. As far as I can tell right now Moonchild or Diablow could come on here and edit or delete messages at whim despite the fact Moonchild hasn't been on here since 2005 and Diablo since 2006, they are both afterall still listed as among our Moderators, having checked the Member's list.

Me too, as I normally work night shifts I'm often on-line around 4-6am UK time.

To be honest David, I don't even know that Roel is Ex-Admin, I am just assuming that by process of elimination (Christian is Admin, Ricky is Admin, Ricky mentioned 2x Admin, so Christian and Ricky must be the Admin, so I assume Roel is an ex-Admin Moderator...). This is part of the problem, who do you contact if there is an issue?

As I've written before, if you see some spam, contact an admin. That would be me and Ricky at the moment. Don't do anything else.

As I wrote above, and have previously written elsewhere, I am working on moving the forum to some new software. Once the forum is moved, the spam problem will be significantly reduced. Until then, nothing will be done, other than removing the spam which we happen to come across or is reported. I think my time is better spent having the new forum software made ready, rather than updating software which will be permanently deleted in a short period of time.

I don't know about Ricky, but I don't read every post on the forum. At the moment, there are about 60 to 70 post a day, and I have other things to do as well.

As mentioned, I would really like some people to help test the new software. Until I get a few people to test out the forum, the migration will be a slow process. Commando and Roel has been kind enough to offer their help. Due to the apparently rather zealous nature of Commando's parents, he won't be able to help further, and Roel is very busy at the moment. Therefore, any help I receive is a step closer to getting rid of the spam problem.

Helping out here isn't a big deal; you basically have to do what you do here anyway: post (and report any difficulties you have in doing so).

To be frank, I can get a tad frustrated, when I see people criticise the current situation, yet fail to offer any help in improving it.

Sorry for the rant, but I'm putting a lot of work into both this, related and other projects at the moment.

    Edit:
At the top of each forum is a link with the title Moderators and administrators. This will give a list of the moderators and administrators.

Simon has one valid point at least, neither Moonchild nor diablo has been around for quite a while and should perhaps be considered stricken off the list.

I would very much like to help out by the way and will sign up right away.
