I copied the suggested topics from the New Members page to introduce myself. It seemed reasonable so, here goes. 1. My name is Jim and my member name derives from the Fallschirmjäger, or “Green Devils” as they were know by the Allied Forces because they were the first paratroopers to be committed in large-scale airborne operations. The six derives from the suffix on my sur-name. 2. I qualify for antique status and have been interested in WWII sense I was in elementary school. 3. I’m and Army Brat and also served in the Army for 29 years. The world was my zip code for 50 years but now, North Carolina is my home. 4. I am interested in the ETO, specifically D-Day. Airborne Operations of both US, British, and German Forces are a special interest. 5. I collect US, British, and German Airborne items. I also collect US Army Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (patches) in color which I started 1972 when my father returned from his second tour in Vietnam. He was going through foot lockers full of old uniforms to get rid of them. Yes, hind sight is 20/20. I asked if I could have the patches from the uniforms he was getting rid of and at the end of it all, I had 8 different patches. I also collect Airborne Background Trimmings (ovals). I have visited historic sites in France, Belgium, Germany, and Russia. As I work on Fort Bragg, I have history all around me which puts a smile on my face every day.
