this link gives a great description of all the roles on the Bofors that Josh's Grandfather served; Antiaircraft Artillery - Bofors 40mm Antiaircraft Gun
Your grandfather was the typical citizen-soldier. He probably didn't want to go to war or join the Army like most men, but got drafted, went and did his job like he was trained to do, got out and came home when the war was over. Steven Ambrose wrote a book titled Citizen Soldiers which told the stories of assorted men and their experiences in the ETO. You might ought to give it a look.
That is a great site, Thanks for the link! Thanks for the suggestion! After coming home he lead a normal life. Lived in the same town the rest of his life, and worked for 35 years at the same job. He must have had a positive opinion of the military. Cause when my uncle turned 18 grandpa told him to either enlist or get a job. And that was at the start of the Vietnam war. He ended up enlisting in the Navy in 1965 he was discharged in August of 1968, He served on the USS Jenkins.
You're going to have to start thinking about setting up your own family military website soon - are there still more relatives to come?
Yeah there are definitely more. I have counted 12 so far, 1 in the civil war, 2 in WW1, 5 in WWII, 1 in Vietnam, 2 cousins served in Iraq, and my mothers stepfather also served. But I don't think he ever saw combat. I was told he was a Sharpshooter. I have actually been working on one for Delbert, Its kinda rough right now. Home - We Sweep the Sky!
