My first photo in the museum was this – a display case of Russian ammunition, taken especially for Tony Williams… Apologies for the flash Then we have a selection of cannon: And an early French ‘machine gun’ – disastrously mis-used in the Franco-Prussian War (they classed it as ‘artillery’) Then we move on to WW1… This photo was taken to show the HUGE shell casing that Quillin is leaning on. The gun to his right is also interesting… Now a small sample of their impressive collection of ammo, guns, howitzers and mortars: Including neat cut-aways: And a lesson of what can go wrong: And an early anti-aircraft gun: They also had many cases of guns & grenades: What is that odd piece of metal on the end of the Hotchkiss? As well as an armoured turret from a fortification – it was mounted on rails. And just for interest – this photo is a view down the armoured sleeve of the Lewis gun on the Mk.IV tank, showing the cooling fins: There were many many more guns, from Medieval breech-loading cannon through to WW1 howitzers, but not enough time to photograph them all.
Thanks for that - some nice artillery ammo there! Tony Williams: Military gun and ammunition website and discussion forum
