Greetings all! Glad I found this forum, look forward to a topic I find very interesting. Well, tanks I have operated: M60A3,M1,M1A1,M1A2, Leopard 1&2, T-72,T-62,T-55, Challenger 1 and K1 If AFV's are considered, the Bradley, M113 and M577 Been on/around. Well, I volunteered at the Ft. Knox, Kentucky Patton museum, so I guess most of the WW1 & WW2 inventory they have on sight. Including the second M1 built, named Thunderbolt, after General Abrams tank in WW2, and one of the few T95 left.
M60A3 I had the pleasure of taking an M60A3 for a drive many years ago at Fort Bragg. They wouldn't let me drive over any trees though!
I was in T34/85,(still in use,but not for long) T-55 and M-84 (serbian made tank,it is modification of T-72,but bit closer on T-80).Only problem is that im 193 cm tall,so tank is not best place for me,so i just look in them, not drive
Ok,ur right Yugoslavian modification That tank was made in all part of Ex Yugoslavia, and u might be interested in new tank "Vihor" 3 prototypes was made in 1992y,and war stoped it their productions, but 2 prototipes r still in Belgrade in VTI (Army research institute),it is bit lighter then M-84,lover silhuoette, faster with more mobility, armor protection about the same (so low) but reactive armor can fix that, and im not shure for the gun.It is outdatet by now but back then.... P.S. I was in army in that research instityte so i sow alot of prototypes
I've been in a m3 stuart myself, In the commanders position I think, or was it the gunners? I can't quite remember, Excellent stuff, at 45 mph on the road.
I have been on a sherman, but that does not really count i guess. i've also been under the wings and up close to Lancaster that still can fly
I was a 19D Cavalry Scout (US Army) and got drafted into tanks a couple of times at loader or driver. I crewed: M-60A1 Rise Passive (Late 80's) M-1 Abrams (105mm version) I got the pleasure of playing with: M-41 Walker Bulldog (restored) Been inside: T-34/76 T-34/85 T55 (note Soviet tanks are built for midgets) Aka I'm to tall (6'3") M-106 (US heavy tank - 120mm gun) M-48A5 M-47 M-4 Easy 8 More but most are open topped (US tank destroyers) and not in very good shape.
If necessary I can drive one every sunday. This is me at the controls of a Chieftain (although a bit low in the seat...) Kris
*envy* My wife has driven a Cheiftain (a birthday present from me) but I have not... My closest to being in an AFV was a ride in a DUKW!
