Looking forward to reading and participating on this forum. I have been researching my father's military service (Army) for several years. Started with his discharge papers, a few letters and the local newspaper where he lived. Have discovered a great deal of information, but there are still a few gaps and some questions. He initially served in the Illinois Reserve Militia then enlisted in the US Army (1943). First overseas assignment was Burtonwood and subsequently assigned to a couple reinforcement battalions moving through France, Belgium, Germany and back to England before returning to the USA 45 DEC. I am also researching my father-in-law's military service (Navy - PC 621 Subchaser). Frankly, I find that his records are more complete than my father's records.
Welcome. We're a pretty friendly and knowledgeable bunch. Feel free to raise any issues or ask any questions you may have.
Welcome. As stated above, we have some sharp guys and gals here and most are willing to help as they can. I don't think Navy personnel records from WWII were heavily affected by the St Louis records fire in 1971. Almost all of the Army personnel records were lost.
That was my impression as well. Already discovered that the Navy records generally seem to be more complete than my dad's Army records! I am going to be looking for information specifically regarding his ship, PC 621 and the USS Chilula.
