    Hi all,
I'm helping a freind identify some WWII aircraft photos and such that her father left her. It's been a lot of fun so far.

This one has me scratching my head. Of course I am ASSUMING it is from the same era...could be earlier I suppose.

Anyway, can anyone identify this? Sort of looks like some sort of campaign pin.

Does it have anything on the back side?

Not sure as this is the pic she sent me. I've asked her to look at the back and maybe send a pic of the back as well.

    Thanks!

Anymore background on the pin? Where it is from? Where did father serve, etc?

Was he a Shriner or Mason? I ask because of the scimitar.

Most shriner items have the crescent moon somewhere on them.

The crossed sabre and scimitar seems to be unique, since crossed swords are usually of the same type.

This is a real poser. I did some quick searches and could find nothing similar. I'll keep looking because it piqued my interest.

Agreed. I was thinking the braided chain might be the crescent moon. But then, the handle on the scimitar does not look right.

I asked about the back of the pin and there are no markings what so ever.
Her father was in the Phillipines during the war, which really doesn't help as the style of swords do not fit that area at all. The scimitar is most like the Sword of Ali (arab sword). The other saber could be a Marine Corp maulke or it could be a Shamshir which is of Persian origin. The chains...you got me!

This has me stumped. I suppose it could be some sort of fraternal organization that actually has nothing to do with WWII. But, since it was in with the rest of the memorabilia, I figured it would be a good place to start.

In Google images under "Ali Baba Brooch" or "Scimitar Brooch" there are a number of very similar costume jewelry pins/brooches for ladies. There was an Ali Baba film in 1944 and most of them seem to date from that era, so maybe it was just a thing about that time.

I couldn't find one exactly like that one, though...

Well you have chain mail,a "regular" sword and the Islamic style blade with what looks like a Phoenix headed handle with winged crossguard and a face that I cannot ID,and Arabic decor on the blade.
It could be a "sweetheart" piece made up by a soldier for a loved one.Another possibility could be a Knights Templar piece..

BTW,the southern Philippines is largely Muslim.I have seen blades that look like the one on this pin there.
