    Preposterous. As usual, you hold others to different standards than yourself.

    1937 was the last reliable census of Soviet citizenry until after Stalin's death. Were did the extra 38 million spring from in 4 years, no less?

    You first statement in this thread was false, and the next cannot be proved either.

    The census of 1937 was not more reliable than the other ones .
    It is obvious that you are not aware of the annexation of the Baltic States,of Eastern Poland and of parts of Finland and Romania .

    It was, in that the authors were sentenced to Gulag for failing to produce the expected results. It is widely regarded as the most reliable census of Stalinist Soviet Union.

    Annexation of the Baltic states? Eastern Poland? Finland and Bessarabia? None of them were fighting in the Red army in significant numbers at any time in 1941. The Finns were forcefully moved to Finland. The Polish officers and intelligentsia, that were killed en masse in Katyn? None of those areas constitute anywhere near 38 million people. (Eastern Poland estimated approx 13.3 million, Bessarabia, less than 4 million, Lithuania just over 2 million, Latvia, just under 2 million, Estonia, just over 1 million, Finland, a few hundred stayed, ...)

    All of those territories were lost in the first few weeks.

    Its obvious, you are now just pulling crap out of your rear.

    Actually AGN moved fast at the start, but once they got half way to Lenningrad they became bogged down because of the lack of troops. Not only was Guderian sent south, but Hoth was sent north to help assist.

    I see :at school first in crap;last in math ;

    162 million + 13.3 + 3.7 (which is less than 4 million) +2 +2 +1 = 184 + the natural increase between 1937/1941 = some 200 million .
    BTW : Katyn is of topic,unless you can prove that the victims were all living in Eastern Poland . And,14000 Katyn victims is irrelevant on a total of 200 million .

    That these territories were lost in the first weeks,is only a very primitive attempt to highjack the discussion ,which has as subject : the population of the SU in 1941.
