This airfield at Dunino, Fife, is on a never-ending to do list for visits, but we're rapidly heading towards the harvest season so for now I have to rely on photos from friend and colleague Jim Bain- First photo is a classic 'Blister' hangar, there's another on the field in skeletal form. The other is the Naval type control tower. There are quite a few surviving buildings in the technical area, and also scattered about the perimeter. Dunino (also known as Kilduncan airfield) was used by both RAF Polish squadrons and the Fleet Air Arm, and is about 4 miles north of the RN airfield at Crail (HMS Jackdaw-hence Jackdaw II). A few hundred yards to the NE of the field was the bombing decoy for Crail airfield, and the Auxiliary units had an OB in the nearby woods and a radio station in a nearby farm. Busy old place.........
*bumped for an update* Actually managed to visit the airfield last Easter. Couldn't get to the tower or the blister hangars, as they're on two separate farms serviced by the peri track, and the gates were closed and locked that day. Quite a few interesting buildings around the entrance though. Thought I had posted the pics somewhere here, but apparently not. Try to remember over the weekend.
At the main gate was this picket post. And right behind was a laundry complex. Stanton shelter Emergency Water Supply Men's Latrine Security fence.
A few hundred yards down the dirt track was this domestic site. There were a couple of new barns on what looked suspiciously like dispersals.
And a very long-distance shot of the tower from the main road. This was on the western part of the field behind a locked gate, protected by a flock of killer sheep.
