This is a pocket-sized manual giving merchies basic information on how to survive when they have to walk home from work. It was co-authored by a survivor of the Robin Moor. Booklet in pdf format.

    HOW TO ABANDON SHIP.

BTW, folks, the First Aid information in that booklet is outdated. Please consult up-to-date medical aid sources if you shoot yourself in the foot or something.

That's an effective way to check for sharks.

When I ever I hold the door for someone and they say "Thanks." I reply "Just check for snipers, okay?"

"If dwelling on the subject of abandoning ship causes the men to grow fidgety, discontinue the discussions for a day or two."

What a fascinating read. Chiming quite well for me with something of an obsession with the RNLI's work.
What really gets me is the sheer number of named examples they have to hand for grim failures or clever successes.
    Lots of ships going down.
    Lots.

    A life-suit of the period:

Think of me as the J. Bruce Ismay of the forum, someone must survive to give a sanitized account to protect Otto's reputation!
