What are the best sources to see where my father served in WWII? His stories include tales of the Philippines, Okinawa, and Japan. He was a T-5 with aforementioned battalion. Which books or resources would be the best to start the search. Thus far I have been unable to even determine the division his battalion was with. Thanks RE: Lloyd Berriman 36545717 served 10/1942-01/1946
Have you requested his records from the National Archives? The fire in the '70s took a lot of them but you might get lucky. Any documents he saved that you can access?
Yes, just. While I wait for a reply I wanted to do research on troop movements in Pacific theater but so far I can find no information about Headquarters Battery 362 AntiAircraft Artillery Searchlight Battalion (which is what I am told unit abbreviations stand for. No official paperwork just pictures and unit issued birthday and holiday cards with undecipherable signatures of the chaplain and commanding officer.
Thanks. Did it. One reference in the US Army Records 1917-1950 housed in Dwight D. Eisenhower Library in Abilene Kansas; Book 2 box 283.
Try USAMHI in Carlisle, PA. They will usually send a brief unit organizational history and itinerary for WWII combat units as a freebie. Good luck.
It's an outside chance but if you check out the 5th Air Force during WW2 they advanced from (SWPA), southern New Guinea- Philippines- Japan. Many of the missions were ground support and invasion overwatch.
