Old Hickory also witnessed the loss of a Lancaster over St Lo on July 25, 1944, during the carpet bombing at the start of Cobra. He said it blew up in the air and fell to the Earth in several pieces. No parachutes were seen.

Does anyone have an idea of the number the aircraft and who was in the crew?
