If you were a movie director, and were making a WWII film, what would it be about and why?

Likewise for Ottawa. The political scene up here is pretty bleak right now.

After watching your video I want to go record that I was kidding about inviting members of the armed forces or citizens of a foreign nation to come up to Ottawa and burn our capital. :i_surrender:

I am sure that Csis and the RCMP have better things to do with their budget than to send two agents knocking on my door. The federal government has too many environmental research studies and reports to destroy and burn to waste time on little old me.

A movie on the life and exploits of "Manila John" Basilone would be nice.

It doesn't go into much detail. And besides, The Pacific jumps around too much. And I don't feel like watching it again.

Fiddy ate is trying to start another war betwixt us...Constantly pushing our sensitive Canadian buttons. You will pay user fee's for Canadian original copywrited jokes and phrases. Bound by all laws, we will see you in Tundra court. Next time you are around these parts- be wary. We have posters up.

wouldn't you agree that in the 50-60's the war movies depicted whole battles/campaigns (with attention to commanders and a number of star characters), then in the 70-80's it was more a "unit" thing , follow a bunch of tough, or odd bunch of men doing a (doomed but coming out victoriously) specific task , then you had the interval of movies with superheroes (schwarzeneggers, rambos and cheap ww2 destills) killing all and everyone, followed by a period of movies about a single low ranking character (or lonely at the top: Downfall ;) ) and his situation in this bigger war.

So what is to follow in this decade ?

But what is your preferred type of movie ? Say the battle of Monte Cassino; you can shoot it in any of the above styles...

    There's a couple of differences.
Ozzies walk around with hats from which wine corks hang on fishing line.
Apparently, it attracts the flies. Or serves as a warning to other hominids. Ozzies also moonlight as bait for salt water crocodiles.

First off, cool thread. I have some remarks and 2 questions:

    1. You would consider the superhero movies also as "warmovies" ? Like Rambo etc. ? Which wave of films you mean after the superhero phase ? You said "One single low guy" which would that be ?

    2. I would not chose Casino, because I think it has not enough drama or surprising turns so to speak. I can remember the 2 main events: a) Germans removed art from the monasteries to save it from destruction b) The decision was made to bomb the complete hill to pieces incl. the monastry, cause the Allies thought that there were German observes, however the bombing "trick" didn´t work out, cause the rubble now favored the defenders even more. Other than that it was more or less a battle of attrition, correct me if I am wrong. Of course I can make movie storyline of this event but would prefer another battle/campaign :)

    Australian dreadlocks.
In case of flood, traditionally, important papers were stored in a pocket within the interior brim. Should the settler be consumed by a croc, it was hoped his hat would survive.

There were a few aboriginals (especially up north) who would do as quick a job as the crocs...or snakes...or spiders.. etc etc

The Battle for Ortona or Moro River in Italy; The Battle for Hong Kong; The Falaise Gap; the Scheldt; the Hochwald Forest; Verrieres Ridge and Bourgebois Ridge...perhaps the next war movie or mini-series needs to weave together why it was called a "world" war and incorporate aspects of the many locales and the many nationalities who took part. It is the connection of the many nationalities that would connect it to today and how it brought about so many of the changes that make our world so small now. Another story could be about Camp X and SOE and OSS training in Canada.

Yes..I 'd like to see a movie about the Nepalese Ghurkas and and/or some of the Indian troops whom were at many occasions very valuable assets for the Brits and won many VC which seem contradictory with later events in which they 'd seek and got independence from the Brit Empire.
(hopefully i don't get the youtube links to some dodgy poor quality bollywood movies... )
