Hello, I've been studying WW2 for oooh, almost a year now, and I recently discovered how very very little i know about the pacific front, aside from Pearl Habour I have no idea what went on. Could anyone have any pacific sites (hehe, get it?) that could tell me about this certain front? Or any certain books that give a detailed yet overall view on the pacific war. Oh, and any good films. Cheers,
Weeeeell, as for books, i can get you started. The First 24 Hours of war in the Pacific Author: CAnt remember But Not in Shame: The First 6 months after pearl Harbor (VERY GOOD) By John Toland um, thats a good start CvM
Go on Carl and start a thread on the Pacific WW2. It will do us all good! Anyway for people who want to learn faster here´s a little something to start with: http://www.ww2pacific.com/ww2.html
"With the Old Breed" by Eugene Sledge is a great first hand combat account. He was, eventually, a corporal. After the war, however, he became an professor of, I think, English or Literature. So, it's a combat account of a lowly enlisted man, written as well as an enlish prof. could write! Really cool. A few years ago it was very easy to find, so I'm sure you'll have some luck at libraries and used book stores.
Check out the book A Photographic Record of The War In The Pacific From Pearl Harbor To V-J Day. By Ralph Martin. Doesn't tell you much about weapons or tactics, but it does a great job of telling you what happened. It also has alot of pictures
