Thank you. I will also be starting on Jagdgeschwader 27 fighter wing, which is more complete and accurate than NJG 6 was. JG 27 was the one with Adolf Galland at the helm. This one is also much longer a list than the other is so it will probably take me a few posts in order to complete it.

    Carl :

I think the flugzeugführer of NJG 6 needs some work ! I have the KTB of NJG 6 and many of the assignments and victories of these gents are incorrect. several are dead and were KIA. Peter spoden I am in contact with and is a good friend.

let me know what we can do to clear this up !!!!!! ;)

Dear Erich, thanks--I figured much of this was sketchy info at best. I've had this stuff for about 3 years now and never knew what to do with it.

Anything we can do to correct it, by all means-lets :D :D :D :D

    Guys :

I'm not sure exactly how you would like this done.......Carl, I see you have given it really basic with gruppen served, pilots last name and if KIA or living or not sure. Do you gents want to pursue the same line ? I ask this because I have a disk that was sent to me from a Friend in Schwerin, Germany who worked on an article on the NJG units last year and it is a bit lengthy in detail of NJG 6. He has taken the time to list almost every victory of NJG 6 by pilot, with date, code of aircraft, and the variant of a/c. It might be a bit much......an example is that I have Peter Spoden's victory list in detail and also Helmut Bunje who served in 4./NJG 6 and is credited with 12 victories. He died on 8th of July 2000 before I could interview him.....a sad loss !

What are your thoughts please ?

I would be perfectly happy with what YOU wish to add/and correct. I copied this info exactly as I recieved it from my friend. I would like all the mistakes corrected if possible. I dislike the idea of not giving the man the proper credit for his service. For example, if he shot down 20 aircraft, and I put in only 12, then it definately has to be corrected.

Erich, whatevery you can correct, is greatly welcomed by me. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    Carl, Otto :

I have till next Christmas right ? Some of the men are not familiar to me, but it looks like I will have to open the NJG 6 KTB again and go day by day......this will take some time for sure but might be pretty interesting.

Take your time my friend. I too are behind schedule on doing a few more projects for this site. My U-boat losses project is only 45-50% finished. My Knights Cross Recipients project, cannot get started till sometime in July, at the earliest. This is a completely different thing from the vets addresses.

Ok guys here we go ! I'm going to be a bit detailed for some of these chaps, since I know a few from this NJG. I will have to really dig for some others though, as most all served in several different night fighter units.

Oberfeldwebel Günther Bahr received the DK on June 13, 44 and the RK on March 28, 45. He was born on July 18, 1921 at Neu-Leegden/Samland. March of 42 he was flying with I./NJG 1, and in July of 43 he was in 4,8,and 12./NJG 4. From here he was transferred into 3./NJG 6. At the end of 1943 he had 8 victories. Scoring multiple kills on several nights he had 37 victories and recieved the RK for this achievment. Flying finally with 7./NJG 6 on April 3, 45. Günther became an offizier with the modern day Luftwaffe and is still living.

Martin Becker born on April 12, 1916 just celebrated another birthday again and an article was just released in Jagerblätt magazine wishing him a happy birthday. He received the DK on May 29, 44, and the RK on April 20, 44 and the EL to his RK on March 20,1945 after his huge success against RAF bombers on the night of March 14/15,45. 9 confirmed victories with 3 of them by his bordfünker RK winner Karl-Ludwig Johanssen. Karl is a great guy and gentlemen and we have corresponded with each other. The guys were flying the Ju 88G-6 that evening.
Martin started his career in 11./NJG 4 and by August of 43 was in 2./NJG 6. On October 17,43 he became staffelkapitän of second staffel. Scoring multiple kills on many nights his score rose quickly. With 43 kills he became Gruppenkommandeur of IV./NJG 6, changing from the Bf 110G-4 to the Ju 88G-6. Martin flew 110 missions, 27 as a recon pilot. 58 abschüsse. Hauptmann as his final position. Although still alive his health is not that good.
Feldwebel Helmut Bunje was a successful pilot with 12 victories. He started his night flying career late, flying the Bf 110G-4, his first victory was with 4./NJG 6 over a halifax on march 15, 44. 4./NJG 6 became his home for his WW 2 life and the staffel changed to the Ju 88G-1 and later the G-6 versions in August of 44 and December of 44 where Helmut had his 5th kill, this time over a Lancaster. On February 23, 45 he scored three times over Lancaster and his final two kills were over Lancasters on March 16,45 at 3800 metres and 4300 metres south and then north of Schwäbisch Hall. Helmut was a great guy and sadly passed away in July of 2000.

Well guys I will add more, but let me know if you like this type of format please.....?

Great job Erich. It doesnt matter to me how you put the info, just as long as it keeps on coming. VERY good stuff my friend.

Also, with luck, I might be able to get Martin Drewes to submit an interview only for this forum. I think everyone will like him as I now know of his humor and a bit into his past. I am currently working on trying to get what I can for this interview.

Im happy to say, that he is doing very well in Brazil [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] and we are establishing a friendship of sorts. This might take awhile but, if it happens as Sgt Daginot said in Beau Geste "I Promise You" it WILL be good.

I had 4 uncles who served with the Canadian army during WW2 one served in Canada with RCASC... another served as a clerk with the Hasy Pees. The third, I was named after, was killed in Italy while serving with the Irish Regiment of Canada September 14, 1944...The fourth was posted to England and was invoved with the evac. at the Port of Breast, he was a bren gun instuctor < I believe untill his brother was killed, after which time he served as well with the Hasty Pees...He was taken prisoner after a short time of being in combat... I have some other info as well but this being my first posting, I don't want to take up a whole page.

Dear Cliff, welcome aboard and thanks for the fam military info. Sorry about your family losses. At sometime in the future, it would be neat to have a section on these forums that show photos of members and non members--family who served in ww2--or any war for that matter. Keep it happening! ;) [IMG]

    Carl:

Hey I am in one piece so to speak, and plan on getting back to Oregon sometime Saturdsay eve. I'll keep working on this list slowly  as I probably have a billion e-mails to answer. I do have some lengthy bio's on some of the NJG 6 boys and then for many not a single hint of their service. They were there of course but many may have not scored 1 victory and with that there would probably be not much of anything to cover them in my files. I'll be back on board in a couple of days :D :D
