    Hello all,
As mentioned in my intro, I am seeking information on my grandfather’s unit. His name was Arthur W. Hayes. He was in the 2nd ID, 9th Inf. Regiment, 2nd Battalion, E Company. I have contacted the National Archives, but it seems his records were part of those destroyed in a large fire in the storage facility some years ago.
He landed on Omaha Beach on 6/7/44. He was captured in October of ‘44 shortly after crossing in to Germany from Belgium. He was attempting to establish an OP with about 6 others when they came under attack by mortars and small arms fire. His position was over run and then captured.
I am grateful for what I know, but I would love as much detail as possible. Any guidance or info would be much appreciated. What I do know has come from personal accounts, after action reports dating from August ‘44, and a diary of a 1st Battalion Sgt. Thanks in advance!
