Does anyone know - or know where to find - the Japanese units involved in the landings at Buna and Gona in July '42 and the landings at Milne Bay in August '42. I have a sword with Jap blokes name and am interested in tracing a history. Also is there somewhere I can search Names/Dates of KIA/WIA/POW ?

    Thanks all.

    HI JIM,

IT MAY HAVE BEEN A SPECIAL MARINE LANDING FORCE, BUT IM NOT SURE. SOME OF THE JAPANESE UNITS INVOLVED IN THE BUNA CAMPAIGN WERE THE:
    1.41 ST REGT.
    2.144 TH REGT.
    3.82ND. REGT.
    4.229 TH REGT.

I BELIVE MOST OF THESE TROOPS CAME IN AS REINFORCEMENTS AS THE BATTLE PROGRESSED. IN OTHER WORDS THEY HAD NOT ARRIVED AS EARLY AS THE TIME IN QUESTION. IM GOING TO GUESS IT WAS THAT MARINE LANDING FORCE.
YOU MAY BE ABLE TO FIND WHAT YOUR LOOKING FOR IN A LITTLE BOOK CALLED "BLOODY BUNA" WRITTEN BY LIDA MAYO..."DOUBLEDAY & COMPANY, INC. GARDEN CITY ,NEW YORK.
