http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=2914905 TOKYO Mar 1, 2007 (AP)— Japan's nationalist prime minister denied Thursday that the country's military forced women into sexual slavery during World War II, casting doubt on a past government apology and jeopardizing a fragile detente with his Asian neighbors. -------- And no holocaust, right?!!
"Nariaki Nakayama, chairman of the group of about 120 lawmakers, sought to play down the government's involvement in the brothels by saying it was similar to a school that hires a company to run its cafeteria. " Charming.... I just hate people who are mentally unable to admit what their country has done wrong in the past. By negating yesterday's crimes or mistakes, they are just fueling tomorrow's crimes.
How do you know a politician is lying? His mouth is moving. Do you know why lawyers are often politicians? They have the best training for telling a lie with sincerity. Politicians and lawyers live by deceit. Their job is to take a policy or position, mold it into a palatable premise, and then manipulate any facts to suit the premise. If the facts do not suit the premise, it is either faulty facts, or a conspiracy to obscure the real facts.
Good call Seadog. Q. If everyone knows politicians are such crooks, how do they get elected, or stay in office? I can't say I blame the PM for being "Cleopatra" (Queen of de-Nile). Once you open that "Flood-Gate", you'll have long lost realitives comming out of the woodwork for a millennium. All suffering from physical & mental trauma that only a "big" cashiers check can cure. Those who know, know better. It's over now (or dam well should be), so let it die. Hope no one wars again. It's a no win situation. If you lose, you either die or get sued...(with hardship rights) If you win, you either die or get sued...(with bragging rights) (the only winners are the attorneys with their 30/40 %) Q. How do you screw anything up? A. Add an attorney Get real. Attorneys make a living off of other peoples misery. It's what they do. It's all they do.
I do blame them. The focus should be on getting the story right and not on the current legal liabilities. Denying the violations only adds more damage to the women that have injured from the atrocities. Sure there are attorneys that have sold their souls to the devil, some however work ethically for the plaintiff or defendant.
The point I was trying to make is exactly this...Where does it end? Point out...exactly what can be prosecuted...exactly what has to be apologized for...exactly what was excessive force, unnecessary, and exactly who has to be prosecuted, make apologies, grovel, kiss-up, pay off. Show us, with a majority of those who were there (born 1946 on- no count), these crimes/people and the world will take it from there. If you cannot name the offenses (all, now) If you cannot name the people (all now) If you do not have a majority (now) You are like me...you have an opinion, and nothing could be more subjective. Draw the line. Starting something that adds to itself constantly is called "Snow-Balling". Wiser minds than ours looked over the evidence long ago, and decided (for the best, I might add) what was consequential and inconsequential. I lost (in-law) family aboard the Helena, I dare say I might have more of an excuse to "hate" than you do. I'm willing to forgive, rather than start this "Perpetual Motion" machine of finding something new to cry/sue over for the rest of our lives. Someone/Somewhere has to STOP digging up Bones.
Denying the atrocity doesn’t end the issue, but increases damage as previously mentioned. Denial certainly does not work with regard to the Holocaust. I am willing to forgive as well, however the guilty party must be worthy of such forgiveness by actually wanting to be forgiven. Accepting the responsibility of the crime would be the first step toward resolving the issue. Where does it end? That is a good question and a mater of opinion.
Don't let other people put ideas in your head. Your argument would have more worth if it were original. Many stir ashes of old fires for their own benefit under the guise of "For the Children, For the Women, For the People, For the Planet." yada yada yada. Don't be manipulated, be a free thinker, look at the "Big Picture." This episode, under the guise of straining neighbor relations, would (a blanket admission of guilt) create a far larger strain. Governments deny virtually all wrong doing, then delay all findings after lengthy investigations. Hopefully all will forget/lose interest/be diverted by other things. It's on the first page of your orientation. Plausable deniability Rightious indignation (if accused) Bad facts/lack of credible information (garbage in-garbage out) Absolution in Abscentia (first time I ever heard of this)(unknown) select a committee to investigate (time) create a report after they're finished (more time) Investigate on your own and you will find both Axis and Allies frequented places with women for bardor/cash/fun/romance/and unfortunately...force. This/these incidents are the tip of a world-wide Iceberg, and singling out "one" (just because they lost) is hypocrisy.
Interesting advice. You have accelerated from expressing your opinion to telling me how I should respond and think. Your close with the accusation of hypocrisy is a twist of satire. I realize that at the minimum you are a self-proclaimed expert on war crimes and on legal representation as a whole. I will advise you to believe and support what you will and I will agree to disagree with you.
The war is over...62 years ago. If that means nothing to you, then it's attitudes like yours that start the next one, in the same place, with the same people. Only an ambulance chaser would think that 2 Atomic bombs was not enough payment for any/all "alledged" war crimes. Got a lawyer joke for ya. How do you tell a dead lawyer from a dead skunk on the road? There's skid marks in front of... The "SKUNK"
Amazing. You appear to force you opinion on others that disagree with you. There’s bound to be some history behind that tactic somewhere. Seems your psychic and comedian abilities could use some work. The misguided insults are a bit dry and off target. I don’t know any ambulance chasers. See what you can do with ambulance drivers, firefighters, police officers or veterans.
A mock war crimes tribunal, putting Japan in the dock for the Imperial Army's treatment of wartime sex slaves, has opened in Tokyo. During the five-day hearing, 78 former comfort women will give evidence of their suffering at the hands of the Japanese army during the 1930s and 1940s. The tribunal is based on an indictment against Japan's wartime government, former Emperor Hirohito and senior military officers, for setting up and operating military brothels as part of the war effort. It follows years of fighting for redress and failed legal suits. Representatives from nine Asian countries are in Tokyo for the mock trial which, while not legally binding, is highly symbolic. “We are still waiting for our dignity to be restored,” Jan Ruff-O'Herne. Interesting. The latest in news is that PM Shinzo Abe says that there were sex slaves and he apologizes for his country....
His apology has been posted by various sources this morning and is misleading. He apologized to the comfort women for the situation they found themselves in, but continues to deny any responsibility for forcing the women into prostitution. “Still, his remarks fall short of demands made by victims that Abe clearly acknowledge that the wartime military was involved in forcing the women into prostitution.” My Fox Boston http://www.myfoxboston.com/myfox/pa...n=1&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=3.4.1 “Premier denies coercion in World War-II era brothels, even as he berates North Korea over kidnappings of Japanese citizens.” Los Angeles Times http://www.latimes.com/news/printed...ory?coll=la-news-a_section&ctrack=1&cset=true “The prime minister earlier this month triggered an uproar when he said there was no evidence that Japan directly coerced comfort women. He later elaborated by saying he was talking of coercion in the "strict" sense of kidnapping women.” ABC Radio Australia http://www.radioaustralia.net.au/news/stories/s1882090.htm
Japan’s Aso to reaffirm 1993 apology over sex slavery http://globalnation.inquirer.net/news/breakingnews/view_article.php?article_id=57946 SEOUL, South Korea -- Japan's foreign minister will reaffirm that Tokyo stands by its 1993 apology over sexual slavery in its World War II military brothels, when he visits South Korea this weekend, a senior Japanese diplomat said Friday. Foreign Minister Taro Aso was set to visit South Korea's southern resort island of Jeju on Saturday and Sunday for talks with his counterpart Song Min-soon. However, Japan still maintains the coercion was "in a broad sense," but not "in a narrow sense" -- meaning it insists that government or military officials did not raid homes and kidnap women, as has been alleged. It was unclear how South Korea might react to what Aso will say. Seoul's stance appears to have softened somewhat from the past, and it needs Tokyo's cooperation to resolve the international standoff over North Korea's nuclear program.
Too bad he did not listened Skunk, he would have known everything was OK and there was no need for even tedious apologies LOL
I personally found this a disturbing myself. As Japan commited some of the most gruesome crimes during the war. In fact the Japs treated the Chinese with the same respect and dignity as the Germans treated the Russians. To deny such accusations when there is so much evidence stacked up against you is to simply be in a stage of denial is it not? This can not help Japan with there relations in Asia, epecially in China.
I didn't get my free Toyota, so I'm not helping them anymore. I want a pay-off too. Hey there's always Africa for atrocoties, going on every day, except they don't have "Deep-Pockets" like the Japanese.
