"French singer Juliette Gréco has died aged 93, the actress' family confrimed. The iconic musician died on Wednesday near St Tropez in France.
Her family confirmed the news of her death to AFP, writing: “Juliette Gréco died this Wednesday surrounded by her family in the house she loved so much. Her life was one like no other."
"She was still making French songs shine at the age of 89.”
The singer was not only known for her music but also as a style icon and an artistic muse to photographers and writers.
It has been reported that the singer died following a stroke.
A true French icon, Juliette's career spanned over eight decades.
Born in 1927, the star was imprisoned by the Nazis during World War Two, but afterwards began performing in cellar clubs and cafes.
Dressed in black, she became a muse to philosophers and writers including Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus.
She only stopped performing aged 89 after a farewell tour."
