Heh, trying to get deeper into the world of German heavy bombers...

"Warplanes of the Luftwaffe" by David Donald

..claims the Ju 390 made the **** Atlantic trip to within 12 miles of the US coast. It dooesn´t say anything else though on this. But seems like the rumour is quite widespread??

Ah good ole rumors......yes Kai once or twice this month I have had debates about the flight to New York and manchuria in the month of May on another forum/.....

found an excellent couple of sites and info about the demise of at least 1 Ju 290 from FAGr 5 due to combat with Sea Hurricane's. One the same date of the Ju 290 crash one Sea Hurricane was shot down by return 2cm fire from the Junkers and it is interesting that an eyewitness although not close for true details mentions his comrades (Hurricane's) wing dipping and hitting the ocean with an explosion. These almost obsolete a/c carried 4 20mm guns and were quite effective off the smaller British air carriers.....

    more later....

this might be of some interest although showing a boxed kit by Revell it appears the firm is trying somewhat to get a historical apsect on a rather unknown unit and a/c right. the box art is a little warped as their were never any German escort fighters flying cover for the FAGr 5's Ju 290's over the Atlantic

sometimes PC's need to be terminated.

Ok back at it. Box art of the new released version of the Ju 290A-5, this one showing 1./FAGr 5 but the wrong abzeichen on the nose. should have a white background.

On Thomas&Ketley "KG 200" (2003 ) they say that the flight to American coast was a fantasy story by pilot Wolf Baumgart. According to them no other pilot has said the same thing, only Baumgart.
