Its election day today in the US, so why not hold our own election to see who the forum's choice for president is. I know must of us are not from the states, but it makes it much more interesting to see how the rest of the world thinks about Bush and Kerry. I really think this has been a sad campaign on both parts, the canidates have spent more time bashing and degrading each other instead of focusing on issues and plans for the future. Personally, I consider myself a democrat, but If I could vote I would go for Bush. Kind of the devil you know vs the devil you don't. Hopefully with 4 years practise under his belt, Bush will get his ass in gear. Oh by the way, did anyone watch the debate when Kerry started sweating really bad (he has a problem with that) and you could clearly see big red dots on his forehead from botox injections to help his sweating disorder? Funny stuff!
Oh, nice idea! My views are simple - Bush will keep making the same mistakes, Kerry will make new ones. Bush will make America more hated, Kerry will make America less secure. Bush scares me - he is prone to tackle issues head on without considering consequences. Kerry scares me - he is prone to not tackle issues at all but waver around doing nothing. Frankly, I would want neither! If I really had to, then possibly Bush. At the last election, a British comic said that he wanted Bush to win. Why? because "Bush will probably destroy the world, but he's a gift to comedy." However, I really know very little about what each candidate stands for. Social Welfare. What are their views? The Environment. What are their views? Crime. What are their views? The Economy. What are their views? All I know about is their service record, their looks, and what commentators have said on their performance to date (and what I know of Bush's presidency).
This is exactly my point, no one knows these things because Bush and Kerry were to busy finding flaws and exploiting them in one another. Example, Kerry *tried* making the Republican party look bad by pointing out that Cheney's daughter is a lesbian, when just 6 months before Cheney said the same thing. Seriously, if there are people out there that are swayed by a statement like Cheneys daughter is gay, well, they should not be allowed to vote.
It gets nastier and more shallow each time around... And it's bad enough already. I don't care about how many timesthis or that politician avoided military service, I care about what he would do with the position we're voting him into! This is all "much ado about nothing" when there really is plenty to be serious about. Sad sad sad. I don't know about other parts of the world, but here in the Netherlands it's almost out of the question to even support Bush. Not that I'm letting myself be convinced by persuasion of majority, but I simply agree with them; Bush is no good. He is no politician (granted that he is a leader), and he simply shouldn't be given such power. I fear that this is a very reactionary opinion; I "vote" for Kerry because I vote against Bush. There's that two-party system again! In just about any debate or major issue I find myself more in line with the democrats than the republicans, however, even though the democrats aren't near as leftist as I would like them to be. I guess America simply fears socialism too much to go as 'near' it as social democracy.
Personally,I can't stand politicians regardless of nationality. They are all the same, wherever they may be, and out for themselves. No,I just can't stand politicians. But I thoroughly despise Democrats! GO BUSH!!! GO BEARS!!!
Social Welfare: Bush knows that this is part of Osama's evil plot to bankrupt the USA and is determined to protect Merikens against it. Kerry thinks it's a good idea, as long as everyone else does. The Enviroment: Both candiates feel it is necessary, although Bush feels it is over-emphasized and shouldn't be allowed to get in the way of fighting terror. Kerry feels that since many (former) Allies of the USA have strong opinions on the environment, it should be supported int he interests of international relations. Crime: As crime is caused by evil doers, Bush is opposed to it, unless it is necessary to fight terroists. Kerry thinks crime is bad, except in those cases where it si really popular with most people. The Economy: Bush will put all his energy into improving the economy, primarily in the form of large contracts let to Haliburton to fight terror. Kerry thinks the economy is really complicated but since most people rely on it for a living it best to have one.
One for Ralph Nader... Homer Simpson is, in the words of the man who does his voice, "a dog trapped in a man's body." Nice president!
My vote is for Britney Spears, knows Bu**er all about politics but the state of union address would be exciting.
Yeah, with state funding going to make-up concerns and all... Seriously GP, who did you vote for in the poll and why?
My vote is for their invisible friend. I didn't like either one of them, beause we know what Bush is like and following the money that backed Kerry seemed to be the same funders; just under a different firm's name, like an umbrella corporation.
Funny, now that the election outcome is known to the forum our own poll moves decisively in favour of Kerry.
Voted for Bush. Despite the fact that invading Iraq was a bad idea, its necessary for the US to stay committed to clean up this mess, otherwise the consequences of not doing so will be completly disastrous. And Kerry just doesn't look commited enough to finish the job. Come to think of it I'm pretty happy Bush won. BTW I saw a similar poll outside some pasta restaurant on election day. Kerry won, apparently.
I'm glad to see Bush will have to clean up his own mess too. Otherwise I'm not happy with the result. I gues if the US could survive Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon they will survive Dubbyah.
