Liberty ship

    This is the Liberty ship Jeremiah O Brien. It is moored in San Francisco harbour. I believe it one of the only two that are still left! You can see Alcatraz to the right of the bow. The second photo is one of the guns.

    The ship is run by volunteers, including former crew members. This ship did the trip to London during the war. And when a former crew member knew I was from England he said " Hey! you must have seen us sailing up the Thames uh?" Oh Yes! I was 4 years old at the time and 100 miles from London!

    I was surprised how much room there is on these ships. Huge cargo holds! But then they had to transport huge cargo's.!

    I may post a more detailed account of these unique ships when a thorough research is completed.

    Excellent photos of a good looking ship.

    All I've picked up is that they were mass-produced out of 'any old iron' and not very tough. But the Jeremiah O'Brien looks tough enough...

    Amazing Picture! Wow, it almost looks bigger than life!
    Do you have any other pictures that you can share?

    Old iron? wow, really, it does look VERY strong! hard to believe?!
