The Commander-in-Chief of the Canadian troops in Europe, Major-General A.G.L McNaughton, was a Canadian by birth. He served in the European War 1914-1918 and was three times mentioned in dispatches. He was Chief of the Canadian General Staff from 1929 to 1935.
