Does anyone know if the Compressor, air, 105 cu.ft. capacity, 4 wheel is a truck or trailer mounted unit? I am thinking it is a truck, but what size of truck? I would appreciate any help.
Check here. Doesn't sound like a truck. HyperWar: USMC Staff Officer's Field Manual for Amphibious Operations [Chapter 1] Hyperwar is maintained by OpanaPointer, one of our own.
Otto has taken over at least part of the mainenance. I wouldn't be surprised to see Opana adding more material from the grave though.
It was a trailer unit, see page 5 of the below linked manual; Materiel reference data for loading and stowing : United States. Marine Corps : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive Gary
This is the standard 105 cfm air compressor fitted to the CCKW-353 truck, usually manufactured by Le Roi corporation The same compressor could be trailer mounted as well.
Here's a recent thread on the Army version and the tools it powered: The CCKW air compressor truck | WWII Forums (ww2f.com)
The compressor truck or trailer comes with a variety of pneumatic tools like jackhammers, drills, chainsaws, hammers, etc., for heavy duty construction work.
