It's Right, indeed in other circumstances, italians whit allied support could repel the germans.

In Corsica, Italian troops under General Magli can hold their position until the arrive of the 4th Franco-maroccan division (General Henri Martin). The Franco Italian counteroffensive, force the germans to evacuate the island on 4th October.
An intrestin thing is that General Von Sager, the German commander during the operation in Corsica, REFUSES to execute italian prisoners.
So, the Chephalonia's massacre could be avoided easly...

also in Bari, italian troops hold the town until the arrive of the allies.
And i can write more and more about this and other small battles after 8th september :D

All this events show how the second world war could change if the King and Badoglio's government were less coward and incompetent. Giving precise and definite orders to the troops could mean that an italian front could not exist. If italian troops block the alpine passages (the Alpini division Pusteria repel the German in Grenoble on 8th September... and some hours later they received the order to retreat in Italy... and "wait") and hold their positions untill the arrive of the allies.... Cassino, Gotic Line, Anzio landings... none of this battles would have existed.
