Just as an aside, there's a metal detector rally at the Marston Moor battlefield (the most important Civil War field)in England soon. It's attracting lots of flak from heritage bodies and archaeologists who can only see the down side of these things.
Again?! I was just making the point that academics/archaeologists tend to get their knickers in a knot about metal detectors. They seem to tar ALL enthusiasts as "thiefs".
I only went metal detecting once, on an old War of 1812 battlefield and caught some crap for it, haven't done it since... Adam
WOW.... I've always wanted to take a trip to Europe with a metal detector..very interesting finds here.
Be careful, LP - you need special dispensation from the authorities, or your European holiday may last rather longer than you might hope !
Very interesting! It would be funny (well, not realy) if you found a land mine and you, um, exploded...
