Designed to meet a Soviet specification of 1939 for a High Altitude Interceptor the MiG-1 was first produced in 1940. It proved somewhat difficult to fly and was further refined and modified to produce the classic MiG-3 which was used extensively throughout the war by Soviet Air Defense Squadrons to protect key locations & infrastructure. Other models were developed as prototypes designated MiG-7 & MiG-9 but were not successful and stayed as prototypes. After the war the MiG bureau would of course go on to design some of the best Jet Fighters in the world. The MiG-1 & MiG 3. Note the Slogan on the MiG-3 which reads "Za Rodinu" - For the Motherland
