I recently purchased this M44. This rifle was used by the Soviets during WW2 and it is typical of Soviet design. Simple and cheap. It chambers a 7.62x54R round and it kicks like a mule on crack! Oh yeah, it also has a folding bayonet.

Nice little piece of history you have there Sgt. Shlitz, thanks for sharing. It looks like you fired it as well, can I ask how it handles?

It's kinda got a kick to it, Peppy. Its worse than a Garand IMO. The thing shoots better with the bayonet extended. I only shot 40 rounds through it so far and was hitting 4 inch groups at 50 yards. I'm going to the range to sight it properly today.

It's the first time I see a similar rifle. Simple but it works and that's what counts. The design is typical of the 1945 period.

Glad you like it, I have fired one as well, and I actully thought it has less of a kick the M1. Never did try shooting the thing with the Bayonet on... Sounds like you are excited about it and that is the important thing. GL at the range.

It's more like a dream, it's illegal to own those in our country in firing condition. Collectors may have them, but they have to get them neutralized...

Jagd, it's a shame really about UK gun laws.
What if you guys face invasion again?
There should be a gun club where you can store your guns and take them to the range.

You can own a live rifle/pistol in the UK if you possess a firearms licence and are a member of a gun club.

For a while now i have been thinking about applying for a licence so i can own a live Mosin Nagant 91/30 along with a PU sniper scope.

A 'live one' can be bought here for around £100 and a scope for approx £120.

I could then join my friend at the range with his K98 sniper rifle :D

thats because the russians were desperate and needed as many weapons as fast as they could get them

Bayonets on rifles can actually affect the accuracy of the shooter since it puts added pressure on the end of the barrel, which is why you dont see too many examples of allied forces equipping bayonets.

The nagant however was designed to be most accurate while having the bayonet equipped and out at all times. I had the privelige of firing a nagant at my local range a few months ago, and the owner made sure that i had the bayonet flipped out to ensure the best accuracy.

Next time you go shooting try flipping the bayonet out and see if your shots group better, i'd love to know if it works for you. Grats on the rifle.
