Hello, I have some questions about what kind of uniform, more specifically, what kind of hat/headgear my grandpa may have worn or been issued to him as his "official uniform". I asked my father what exactly grandpa did during the war and he said all he knew was that he flew in airplanes and his job was to look for German subs. I dont think he ever flew the planes just looked for subs. Would his uniform/headgear be any different than standard issue uniform? While in the plane would he be wearing something different/specific? Any links, images, anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I think it would depend on what country and what service he was in. I know the USN wore different headgear than the USAAF did for crew members
This might be a picture of his "crusher" cap if he was USAAC. http://www.ebay.ie/sch/World-War-II-19391945-/4716/i.html?_sop=3&_nkw=crusher+hat
