    Hi everyone,
I'm new here so nice to meet you all :) I received the following bayonet from my friend for my birthday and would love to learn more about it. He was told it is German WWII and that the numbers on it should be able to help him track more info about it.

Unfortunately I am not too sure how to do that or even where to start. It has Vv 472 on it. I have seen many similar ones online but nothing exactly like this one.

I would mostly like to know who would have had it, when and where but all that may be a bot hard to find out. It would be interesting to see how much it is worth, but that is not as important to me.

    Can anyone help me out?

    Welcome to the forum.

That looks like a Brazilian Model 1908 Mauser bayonet.

    Possibly made in Germany.

    Very common bayonet.

The numbers are the bayonet's serial number.

    Regards

    Richie

    source: bayonet i.d.

M1908Knife bayonet for use with the 7 mm. M1908 Mauser rifle produced for Brazil by DWM in Germany. The M1908 was closely patterned on the Ewer 98 rifle used by Germany. These bayonets were made from 1908-1914 by several German blademakers. This example was made by Simson & Co. of Suhl, Germany. The firm of Alex Coppel also made bayonets.
The German-made scabbard has a leather body with a brass locket and chape.

Thanks so much for your help. So from this I gather that it would have been used by Brazillian troops and not German troops during WWII? Or would they also have used it?

    according to this site;

Brazilian Model 1908 Mauser Knife Bayonet

the German made ones would have been marked on the bayonet and not just the scabbard. There was one possibly Brazilian made model which was unmarked.
    hope this helps :)

That's great. Thanks so much for your help. I really appreciate it. My friend was given this as a gift long ago and was told it was actually used in Staligrad but I assume now that was wishful thinking hahaha

However, I am happy to learn about it actual history so you have all been great.
