I was hoping the radial engine would confuse the non-Finnish a bit longer... OK Notmi, the quiz is yours.

Thanks, I had to search for that for a while but finally found it.

Because I'm not very good asking these questions, I give my turn up. Fastest can take it.

You mean you googled it already...? And a moderator too! I am disappointed... :D

OK... I evolved from a biplane and I was turned into a biplane. What am I?

    Hawker Hurricane?

Evolved from the Hawker Hind series, and there were plans to give it a jettisonable upper wing, to improve the take-off distance, fuel storage, etc etc.

go on, highlight my relative ignorance! :D :D

Now I need to think of a new question...

Ok, name a WW2-era biplane with retractable undercarriage (not including tailwheel, obviously)

    Yes.

At first I thought 'No', as I was thinking of this:

but of course there is this:

    Confusing, eh!

I would also have accepted the Polikarpov I-153 and the Grumman Duck, and anything else that you might have dug up!

I'm guessing the English Channel doesn't count as 'oceanic'... ;)

Unless you count the Med as 'oceanic', has one ever taken place?
Unless you mean 'from an island in an ocean to another island/landmass in an ocean', in which case it could be the B-25s on the Doolittle raid...

Clue time I think... Japanese Navy type that was also involved in some famous sinkings. Not a carrier based plane though.
