The German Army had (very roughly) some 165 divisions out of 270, or around 60%, on the eastern front at the time. The Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine were of course more heavily concentrated in the west.
Are the 19 divisions in Italy included, Heart? However: German KIAs in 1944: West: 244.891 East: 1.232.946
makes u wonder when 83% of Wehrmacht casualties were in the East what the US was really facing...amazing. So far I've concentrated really only on Western Europe, but it's only a small part of the big picture.
Yes, they are! In the total that is. I have several different versions of those numbers all adding up slightly differently, but these numbers seem to represent a decently accurate figure. One could also note that the Axis allies also deployed their forces on the eastern front, which are not included here.
oh sorry 4 the misundrstanding Stefan!!! i was just thinking about how the US was thinking "oh, the germans are so hard to beat!" when really the majority of them were on the Eastern Front.
