Don't have a pool anymore but the 180 +/- acre lake with F16's thundering overhead is soothing . local ANG training group flying low level !! Trimmed a few limbs, dug and spread a couple buckets of dirt with the tractor, put another(!) coat of vanish on a burl from an old Birch tree, 'tidied' up along the driveway and still managed to kill six cans of beer. Oh and I'm at the beck and call for my wife since she had knee surgery yesterday. Hence the six beers.
Sounds sweet! Hope the wife's recovery goes well, knees are hard to rehab and fairly painful. I don't know if I've ever asked you Roger, but what part of the country doth thou reside? My wife doesn't allow me to drink if I'm working, especially with power tools. I'm too accident prone. I went through one period where I had soo many visits to the Urgent Care that the staff started calling me Tim (re: Tim the Toolman Taylor) and would say "Mr. Home Improvement is back!" when I walked in. Fortunately, I clot good and heal quickly.
I'm as they say up here, "aboot an hours drive south of International Falls, don't ya know". 90 mikes East of Duluth. My wife was very accommodating on the beer aspect. She mentioned a while back I was going through a lot of soda and I mentioned maybe beer could replace the six or so cans of Coke. Umm, seems I go through more cans per day now but I do get a lot more accomplished. After one or two I think, " you should do this". After three or four I actually start doing what I've been planning on doing. And any after that it becomes, " get outta my way I've got trees to cut down and grass to cut, road to maintain and if it's really cold - snow to plow.
Wanted to add here in reference to George Pattons welcome back thread and not get too off track. My cousin was a corpsman during the Gulf War and we talked a bit about his 'adventures' with the Marines. Can't for the life of me remember the unit he was with but a book was written about their ordeal. Possibly this one One conversation : Dave was in the rear following the convoy and got called up when one vehicle rear-ended another and three Marines were killed. Dave's doing okay. edit to remove duplicate photo
I'm glad Dave's doing well, Marines do love and respect their Devil Doc's. Next time you see him treat him to a beer on me, I'd recommend a Yuengling Black and Tan, good dark beer (well actually 40% Pilsner and 60% Dark Brewed Porter), with very little bitter, and from America's oldest brewery. That is probably the right book. A quick search revealed one accident that had three fatalities during the Gulf War, the accident happened on 1/26/1991 killing PFC Michael A. Noline, 20, of Phoenix, Staff Sgt. Michael R. Conner Sr., 32, of Fremont, Calif., and Lance Cpl. Arthur O. Garza, 20, of Kingsville, Texas. It involved LAV's from the First Marine Division, the book is about Alpha Company 1st LAV Battalion which is a First MarDiv Component unit. It was on the Commandant's reading list so it must be a good book, I'll have to try and run a copy down. Seven other Marines were injured, four seriously enough to be evaced out of country, so I'm sure your cousin had his hands full.
I remember that from the old show; Tim even had his own engraved coffee mug in the ER. Thanks for a chuckle!
Well, now I can at least make plans for the next six months. Bold highlights are my contribution to the exemplary forecast. "The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center (CPC) has issued its long range outlook for the winter months and with it derive some sort of idea about what might happen in Minnesota. The CPC doesn't get into specifics for Minnesota, but there are maps for each period. The quick summary is that there are equal chances for above or below normal precipitation pretty much all winter, while the NWS is "leaning" towards colder than normal temps in Minnesota for most of the season. "
Okay I know I'm opening up myself to all kinds of comments, but anyone else brave enough to dare ridicule ! Hey, It was the 70's !! And I'm still chasing her.
Well you know Loves blind. Going on 48 years later and she still doesn't need glasses to drive. I'm just that dashing !
