On the WWIIOL forums we have a two guys in particular who are great sources of information on WWII, almost historian type info. Scotsman for example always can post quite interesting information, and is the person who first introduced the concept of overmatching to me. Anyways he recently started to write about Panther Armor Quality, and this one is quite interesting to read.

    Generally very interesting stuff.

    :)

This bit also grabbed my attention -

If you look at the knocked out Italian tank at the end of this clip I bellieve I can just make out a large tear on the front of the type described -

    - WAL 710/542 - Armor and Welding on a Pz VI Tiger Tank
    - WAL 710/608 - Armor and welding on a Pz-IV etc.
    - ADA 954952 - Metallurgical examination of 3.25" thick armor from a german Panther tank
    - ADA 954940 - Metallurigical exmaination of armor and weleded joints from the side of a panther tank.

Those were the sources he used to write his post.

I do not believe so, Scotsman just gave me the sources he used. You may have to go track these down in the US archives, though I am not sure where.

As for a link, its the WWIIOL forum, but you have to be registered to get into those forums, so if you want to foot 15 bucks to buy a WWIIOL account I will give you the link.
