    Let's not forget the most famous of PT boat unit, "McHale's Navy".

    US colonel in the foreground is probably Philip Cole, the colonel to his right with the general staff corps branch insignia is probably Sidney Mashbir.

    Just happened to look at this; the illustration is an 80-foot Elco PT, distinguished by the two twin .50-caliber mounts being staggered, presumably to allow them to fire to either side. The other common PT, the 78-foot Higgins, had the.50s side-by-side immediately abaft the bridge. The total armament was the same in both types.

    The original Mark 8 torpedoes were carried in tubes. These were replaced by aircraft-type Mark 13s, which as shown were in lightweight racks. The weight savings allowed the heavy gun armament, especially the 40mm Bofors, to be mounted.

    "Crew's quarters" was sometimes described as "Crew's dimes."
