Hello all, I am new here after a while just hovering around and looking at threads.

I am interested in buying a Thompson M1A1. I have been looking all over the internet and have found this company selling them, they claim to have just under 200 of them in stock and all are in A+ condition.

They are de-activated to German spec. which apparently means that they will field strip and dry fire. I was looking for one which did this, and didn't want a post 1995 one which appear to be cheaper.

They are selling for 305 euros including postage, is that too cheap to be true?

sounds about the going rate, each country has it's own de-ac laws. so you need to check if buying this from outside of the country..

Ray's correct - that sounds OK for a pre-'95 deact M1A1. If you're in Germany - no problem ; but you may have difficulties importing these if you're elsewhere.....

if your looking for pre 95 de-acs, you'll need to buy private, and your looking at £800 give or take, or one with current spec £285 or less, in some places you'll pay £20-£40 more...a lot of welding, and the only things that move are the cocking bolt, and the mag..

http://www.milweb.net/classifieds.php?type=16 you often see some here...

here is a pre 95 one.. Thompson M1A1 Submachine

Do you know of any other places to look to buy one? That one you linked is nice, but seems a bit steep at £750 doesn't it?

Really wish i could import the one from Germany! :(

to be fair, your going to pay that sort of money for pre-95 deacs, I can offer you alternatives for current deac ones, which sell at around £345 or less, but you won't be able to do much with it, welded parts, cut and welded parts, and the bolt will work? but it only slides back and forth, no cocking whatsoever..ray..

http://www.rytonarms.co.uk/shop/shop.php they usually have a few of them..

HM Revenue & Customs speak to customs, and you'll get your answe.r re importing of deac weapons..

It's really quite amazing how deact prices and availability have moved. I well remember ten years ago driving up to Witham's in Lincolnshire and viewing whole racks piled with pre-'95 M1A1's , and the proprietor airily telling me to 'take my pick'....at £175 each.....:(

I bet you now wish you had, martin, the prices are way too steep, and with todays current deac regs, they should be a lot cheaper too..

well done..can't complain at that price, even back then, but todays ones, have far too much deactivation, which really spoils it for the true collector, I mean being able to dismantle and the such, smgs I mean, bolt action rifles and pistols, even with current spec, are o.k. as you can still strip them..
