I've just been tidying up in one of the lofts and came across a box of old books and pamphlets I was given years ago. These are really interesting, original publications. If anyone's interested, (after viewing the list below) in scans, or requests for further info contained therein, please get in touch & I'll do what I can.

    In no particular order then:

The Sunday Times War Diary - The fifth 6 months. Sept '41 - Feb '42
The Sunday Times War Diary - The sixth 6 months. March - August '42
The Sunday Times War Diary - The seventh 6 months. Sept '42 - Feb '43
The Sunday Times War Diary - The ninth 6 months. Sept '43 - Feb '44
Our Penelope, The story of HMS Penelope
    Guadalcanal Diary - Richard Tregaskis
The Australian Army At war, 1939-1944
Lifeblood, The Official Account of the Transfusion Services
Defence. The Services' Magazine & Home Guard Monthly. June 1944
Neptune, For Merchant Seamen. Not dated, but possibly '45/'46?
Neptune, For Merchant Seamen. Not dated, but during the period '44-'45.
    Combined Operations, 1940-1942. Dated 1943.
Atlantic Bridge. The Story of RAF Transport Command's Ocean Ferry. Dated 1945.
Arctic War, Norway's Role On The Northern Front. Dated 1945.
Roof Over Britain. The Official Story of The A.A. Defences, 1939 - 1942. dated 1945.
Man Power. The Story of Britain's Mobilisation For War. dated 1944.
Before We Go Back. Norway's Fight Since April 1940. Dated 1945.
Merchantmen At War. The Official Story of The Merchant Navy 1939-1944.
Target Germany. The US Army Air Forces' Official Story of the VIII Bomber Command's First Year Over Europe. Dated 1944.
Frontline. 1940 - 41. The Official Story of the Civil Defence of Britain. Dated 1942.
The Second Great War. A Standard History of the 1942 Campaigns in Libya & Madagascar.

Aside from these publications, there are two or three A5 sized 'scrapbooks', comprising of cut-out jokes from the popular press of the day. Inside some of the books are also magazine articles, again cut out and placed within the pages.

All of the books are 'home-bound' using very thick card, covered in a rough brown backing baper and this has preserved them all remarkably well. They're just a fantastic reminder of a bygone age, a fascinating read and are not for sale, sorry. [IMG]

If anyone's interested in learning more, or have specific questions, I may be able to help.

    Cheers.

This thread sounds like a great idea. I'll throw in a copy of a book I have,
"The Officer's Guide", by the Military Service Publishing Co. Harrisburg, Pa. 9th Edition 1942. The description reads; A ready reference on customs and correct procedures which pertain to commissioned officers of the Army of the United States.
