I'm fairly certain this is the well-known wreck, B-17F 41-24521 'Black Jack' of the 43rd BG which crashed due to storm damage near New Guinea on 11th July 1943.

A great picture, Clint. I don't care about the back story, I'm just in love with the photo.

Yep have to agree with that but the story has got me interested as well.....(saved the pic to use in my pool of screennsaver shots!)

Martin...thanks for that info as well...all the caption said was that it was a search for a still unaccounted for member of the crew hope they found something!

I was in New Guinea once and the amount of wrecked WWII stuff left there is incredible.

Hello, my name is Heather and I have in front of me right this minute an actual photo of the B17 Blackjack. Can you help me with any information on how to maybe contact the members that may still be alive or their families? This photo is authentic and was the property of Walter Douglas of Tucson, Az. He had an airport here in Tucson during WWII.
