Racy stories about hookers and blow aside, snopes has morphed into something useless as a source of truth today. There is no rigid process of verification, there is no oversight on fact checkers.
I use it as a source of direction, not as a bible. Have people lost the ability for critical thinking? I vote yes. Man is lazy by nature. If there is no truth, there can be no democracy.
I am old enough to remember the era of Cronkite and Brinkley when the news was near universally trusted, oh we have always had 'yellow journalism' in some form. Now the news must also be entertaining to fill 24/7 programming and we have anybody and their cousin spouting their views, not on street corners but in our living rooms. All I can say is look at more than one source and on occasion even those voices you disagree with.
At this stage, I'd say snopes ins't even worth using as one of many initial sources to start cross referencing. Wikipedia is far more reliable, and that's saying something.
