"A MASS war grave where the remains of Soviet soldiers killed in a key World War Two battle were buried has been uncovered near Brandenburg.

Historians have described the discovery as the "greatest find of the past years".

Workmen stumbled across the burial site while they carried out repair work on cycle track in the German village of Seelow.

The remains are now being painstakingly exhumed under the supervision of Russian Embassy staff.

Joachim Kozlowski of the Peoples' Federation for German war graves commission said: “So far, we have discovered the remains of 21 Soviet soldiers but we suspect there are more remains in the soil.”

Peoples' Federation state chief Oliver Breithaupt said it was the greatest find of the past years.

He said the Russian soldiers’ remains would be taken to a war graveyard in Lebus where forensics will try to identify the dead."

I suspect remains will continue to be discovered. There were so many missing and unidentified soldiers of all sides that it would be surprising if there were none found.
